The Burger King Portugal App is Free to Download on Android
Founded in 1969, Burger King has more than 4,000 restaurants around the world, serving 11 million customers per day. The fast food chain specializes in chili cheese burgers, which can come with flame-grilled beef patties or a deep-fried patty, and jalapeno cheddar bites.
In Portugal, the first Burger King restaurant opened in the Colombo Shopping Centre in Lisbon in 2001. As of 2021, the restaurant chain had 164 locations. The brand's growth was attributed to consumer preference, as well as a commitment to cut down on carbon emissions. The company also plans to expand its footprint into the three countries of the BRIC group (Brazil, Russia, India and China) in the coming years.
The chain is not afraid to try new things. It recently launched a plant-based menu in Portugal, partnered with The Vegetarian Butcher. The chain's new offerings include the veggie burger, a meat-free patty, and a burger made from the company's plant-based meat alternatives.
The first Portuguese Burger King restaurant to offer a fully plant-based menu was at Rua de Belem in Lisbon, which opened on November 4. The aforementioned menu included a number of items, which are available for a limited time. The best-selling item was the Chili Cheese burger, which can be ordered in a classic, veggie or bacon cheeseburger variant. The Chili Cheese burger is topped with a slice of cheddar cheese, tomato, and a crispy-fried patty.
The other big announcement was the opening of the country's first vegan concept restaurant, which was introduced in conjunction with The Vegetarian Butcher. This one-month pop-up is a success, according to the chain.
